Community Reports
Several community reports indicate that Grand Theft Auto VI may be unplayable for some PlayStation 5 players unless they follow a specific instruction ahead of the game's launch. According to GAMINGbible, players are advised to ensure that their PS5 console has firmware update 14.10.00.00 installed before attempting to play the game on GTA VI Release Date.
This firmware update was reportedly deployed by Sony in response to recent jailbreak exploits that allow unauthorized software to run on the PS5. The update aims to counter piracy, which has become a concern for developers like Rockstar Games, especially with the impending release of GTA VI.
Community discussions suggest that if players do not install this update, they may face issues booting the game. The urgency of this instruction has been highlighted, with the game set to launch on November 19, 2026, and millions of players expected to log in on that day.
Furthermore, there are claims that the recent jailbreak of the PS5 could lead to unauthorized copies of GTA VI being played, which adds to the pressure for players to comply with the firmware requirement. Reports indicate that a jailbroken PS5 could potentially run older official firmware, but updating to the latest version could patch the vulnerabilities that enable such exploits.
Background
GTA VI is set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a significant digital-only distribution model that has drawn mixed reactions from the gaming community. The decision to limit physical copies has sparked discussions about the future of gaming and the implications for consumers.
As the launch date approaches, anticipation continues to build, with many players eager to experience the latest installment in the iconic franchise.
What This Means
If the reports regarding the firmware update are accurate, it could lead to complications for players who are unaware of the requirement. This situation underscores the importance of staying informed about system updates, especially for a highly anticipated title like GTA VI.
