Community Discussion
As the GTA 6 release date nears and preorders are now live, speculation about crossplay features has emerged within the community. While GTA 6 is confirmed to be a 'single-player experience,' questions remain about save transfers and cross-platform play.
Currently, Rockstar has not confirmed any details regarding crossplay for GTA 6. Previous titles in the series, including GTA 5, have not featured crossplay functionality. Community reports suggest that it is unlikely that GTA 6 will include crossplay, following the same path as its predecessor.
In GTA 5, players cannot transfer characters between different console families, such as from Xbox to PlayStation, and even within the same console family, players on different generations cannot play together. For example, PS4 players cannot join PS5 players. However, there is a migration system that allows players to transfer their characters from older consoles to newer ones within the same family, such as from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S.
Despite consumer demand for crossplay, the lack of an official statement from Rockstar leaves the community uncertain. While it is not impossible for Rockstar to implement crossplay in GTA 6, the absence of confirmation leads many to assume that the game will follow the same model as GTA 5.
