A new report from an insider, known as millieamand, claims that over 80% of Grand Theft Auto 6 preorders on PS5 were for the $100 Ultimate Edition. This edition is a digital-only version of the game, which has raised eyebrows given its higher price point and the absence of a physical disc.
According to the leak, approximately 81.8% of GTA 6 preorders on PS5 were for the Ultimate Edition, while 72% of all preorders across both PlayStation and Xbox consoles were for this more expensive version. Despite the higher price, the report suggests that many PlayStation users were willing to pay for the Ultimate Edition, which has sparked discussions about consumer behavior in the gaming industry.
However, skepticism surrounds these claims, as the leaker did not provide actual sales numbers or a secondary source to verify the data. Additionally, other journalists and insiders have previously disputed millieamand's leaks, suggesting a history of inaccuracies. Therefore, it is advisable to approach this information with caution.
Interestingly, if the data is accurate, it indicates that a majority of Xbox owners opted for the $80 edition instead of the Ultimate Edition. This trend highlights differing consumer preferences between the two platforms, particularly in the context of higher game pricing and the shift towards digital-only versions.
