A modder known as DryxioGTA has developed a groundbreaking mod that enables players to travel instantaneously between the settings of Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. This mod, which is still in development and lacks a formal name, was showcased in a video posted on YouTube.
The mod utilizes portals, allowing players to walk through brightly colored gateways located in San Andreas' Grove Street. Each portal transports players to the corresponding game and location, switching to the appropriate player character.
DryxioGTA explained in the video's comments that all three games run 'inside the same process, sharing one Direct 3D device.' He noted that 'each portal is a live GPU texture' with the relevant game 'actually running behind it, it's not a video or a captured window.'
The mod also maintains individual saves, missions, and settings for each game, allowing them to run their world state, including traffic and physics, in real time. Remarkably, the portals enable interactions between the cities, demonstrated by the ability to shoot through a portal, causing NPCs in the current world to react.
Fans have expressed amazement at the mod's capabilities, with comments highlighting the innovative nature of the project. One user remarked, 'The fact that you can shoot the peds and other objects through the portals is just beyond unimaginably insane.'
As the gaming community anticipates the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is set for November, this mod serves as a creative exploration of the franchise's history.
