Recent reports indicate that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) might be headed to the Nintendo Switch 2, with claims that the game has cleared significant technical hurdles. According to Wccftech, Nintendo is reportedly working directly with Rockstar to facilitate this potential release.
Insider Nate the Hate first suggested the possibility of GTA VI on the Switch 2 last November, stating that Rockstar was evaluating the feasibility of bringing the game to Nintendo's latest hybrid console. Recently, insiders Nash Weedle and Shpeshal_Nick have provided updates, with the latter noting that while he hasn't heard confirmation of the game coming to the Switch 2, he has heard that Nintendo is collaborating with Rockstar and Take-Two to make it happen.
Historically, the Grand Theft Auto series has appeared on Nintendo platforms infrequently, primarily on handheld devices. The main challenge for a Switch 2 release is optimization, but some reports suggest that GTA VI may be more feasible on the Switch 2 than in previous generations. This is partly due to the game's optimization for the Xbox Series S, which shares similar power capabilities with the Switch 2.
The Switch 2 may even outperform the Xbox Series S in some aspects, making it conceivable for Rockstar to optimize the game for the console. If the rumors about a 60-frames-per-second mode for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are accurate, it could further support the possibility of running GTA VI at 30 frames per second on the Switch 2.
