According to broadband analysis from Uswitch, GTA 6 could take over a day to download for millions of UK gamers. The analysis highlights that users on standard copper ADSL connections at 10Mbps could face significant delays, with estimates suggesting a download time of up to 6 days and 6 hours for a 676GB file, or over a day for a smaller 120GB version.
Uswitch's experts modeled download times across various UK internet speeds, revealing substantial differences in wait times. For instance, the UK's average broadband speed of 170.2Mbps could result in a download time of approximately 1 hour and 34 minutes for the smaller 120GB file. However, gamers with sub-100Mbps connections may still experience lengthy waits.
Max Beckett, a broadband expert at Uswitch, emphasized the increasing necessity for faster internet to accommodate the growing sizes of next-gen games. He stated, "If GTA VI is digital-only, download speed will be a major factor in how quickly players can start playing."
While rumors suggest that GTA 6 could be as large as 676GB, it remains uncertain if Rockstar will release a game that requires more than half a terabyte of storage. With 90% of games now sold digitally, the potential for launch-day frustrations due to slow download speeds is significant.
