The Rockstar Games Workers Union recently held its first meeting with management at the studio behind Grand Theft Auto VI. According to a post from the union on BlueSky, they described the meeting as 'a step in the right direction.'

The union, affiliated with the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), is seeking voluntary recognition from Rockstar. They aim to establish a bargaining unit that would define the workers represented by the union.

During the meeting, the union reportedly made the case for the importance of workers' voices and expressed a desire to collaborate with management. They have secured what they call 'a roadmap for a speedy negotiation process.'

The union's goals include eliminating crunch practices, increasing pay transparency, reinstating flexible working options, and ensuring that AI is not used to replace staff. If voluntary recognition is not granted, the union may seek statutory recognition through the UK's Department for Business and Trade's Central Arbitration Committee.

This development comes as Rockstar faces legal challenges from former employees who were terminated last year, allegedly for leaking confidential information. The IWGB has accused the company of attempting to undermine union efforts. The final trial related to these legal issues is set to begin in September.
