Confirmed Facts
Rockstar Games has announced the release of the Grand Theft Auto 6 soundtrack, set to launch on November 19, coinciding with the digital release of the game. The soundtrack will be published by Rockstar Games and Atlantic Records.
A double LP vinyl edition of the soundtrack will be available for $50, while a double CD version will retail for $20. For collectors, a limited edition vinyl set featuring two transparent magenta discs filled with blue liquid and exclusive artwork will be priced at $125. All editions are currently available for preorder.
Interestingly, GTA 6 itself will not receive a physical disc release, a decision that has drawn criticism from fans who prefer a tangible copy of the game. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar's parent company Take-Two, defended this choice, stating that physical discs 'don’t really make sense for the consumer.'
The soundtrack will feature contributions from various artists, including Travis Scott and Keith Richards, with more tracks expected to be announced. The album is also available for pre-save on major streaming services, where listeners can access the first six tracks.
Community Discussion
Reports suggest that Rockstar is planning a physical release for the game's music album, with details emerging from various sources. The news was initially shared by the reliable leaker billbil-kun on Dealabs, followed by Rockstar's official announcement.
Additionally, teases from Spotify and social media accounts of artists involved in the project hint at a broader marketing strategy leading up to the game's release.
What This Means
The decision to release a soundtrack on physical media while opting not to provide a physical disc for GTA 6 highlights a shift in how games are distributed. This move may reflect broader trends in the gaming industry where digital sales are prioritized over physical copies.
