GTA 6's Massive Download Size
A report from Eurogamer.net claims that Grand Theft Auto VI will require a hefty download size of 210GB on PlayStation 5. This figure comes from PlayStation Game Size, a source that tracks PS Store game releases by examining its backend.
While the actual space the game occupies on a console's SSD may be smaller, players will need to download over 200GB to access Rockstar's latest title. It remains unclear if this size includes a potential day one patch.
The report highlights that GTA 6 is expected to feature a highly detailed, expansive open-world map filled with numerous side activities, contributing to its substantial file size. Additionally, the game's cinematic, lengthy story is another factor in the overall download size.
Comparisons to Other Large Games
While 210GB is significant, it is not unprecedented among major PS5 titles. Games like Call of Duty are known for their large file sizes, often requiring players to manage storage by uninstalling parts of the game they do not use.
The potential arrival of GTA Online may complicate storage further, as it is built on the same single-player content and map, making it challenging to separate the two.
Release and Pre-load Information
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Digital pre-orders will allow players to pre-load the game starting November 12, 2026.
As the release date approaches, players should ensure they have sufficient storage space available to accommodate the reported download size.
