Potential Economic Impact on Release Day
Reports from FOX 29 Philadelphia suggest that the release of 'GTA 6' could result in a $1 billion loss in productivity as an estimated 1.5 million workers may skip work. This figure is based on the assumption that the average annual output per worker is around $70,000, leading to a substantial economic blow for the U.S.
In major urban centers like New York City and Los Angeles, Cadena SER reported that 6% of the 18-to-35 demographic is expected to miss work during the game's release weekend. This demographic is particularly significant for tech firms, which are projected to feel the most considerable impact.
Despite the potential productivity loss, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company, is poised to benefit financially. The company anticipates over $1 billion in operating cash flow for the fiscal year, primarily driven by the release of 'GTA 6'.
Pre-Order Revenue and Future Projections
According to SensorTower's GTA pre-order tracker, the game has already generated nearly $600 million in revenue from pre-orders alone. Market research firm Newzoo estimates that 'GTA 6' could achieve up to $4.5 billion in retail bookings during its opening week, highlighting the game's anticipated commercial success.
