As GTA VI Trailer 3 looms, former Rockstar developer Mike York discusses the immense expectations surrounding the game. He emphasizes that Rockstar continues to set the standard for open-world games, stating, "Rockstar makes the best open-world games, no matter what open-world it is."

York, who worked on GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, explains that rival studios struggle to match Rockstar's quality. He cites the initial reveal of Ubisoft's Watch Dogs as an example, noting that while the demo was visually impressive, the final product did not live up to those expectations. He remarks, "Developers chasing the success of Rockstar’s open-worlds quickly realized how difficult a game like this really is."

York believes that Rockstar's legacy is solidified with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, which many consider the current 'golden standard' for open-world games. He adds, "[Rockstar Games] literally are the top of the top of the top, and no one's done it as they can do it."

With GTA VI designed specifically for current consoles, expectations are soaring. Despite concerns over 60fps limitations, the Trailers and leaks have impressed many. However, fans are still waiting for honest gameplay footage featuring protagonists Jason and Lucia.

The third trailer for GTA VI is anticipated later this month, potentially coinciding with a Take-Two Interactive earnings call. Fans hope to see the new Vice City and various in-game activities. Given the franchise's history, GTA VI's launch is shaping up to be one of the biggest media releases in history.
