According to a report from analytics firm Sensor Tower, 89% of pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI are for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition, rather than the $79.99 standard edition. This statistic, shared via GamesIndustry.biz, suggests a significant preference among consumers for the premium version of the game.

Sensor Tower's data indicates that 90% of Xbox players opted for the Ultimate Edition, while only 11.5% of PlayStation users chose the standard version. Karl Kontus, SVP and GM of Video Game Insights at Sensor Tower, noted that premium pre-orders typically attract more dedicated fans, which may explain the high percentage for the Ultimate Edition.

While standard edition sales are expected to increase as the launch date approaches, the current split is notably above industry norms. Kontus mentioned that typically, 10% to 20% of pre-orders are for premium editions, and achieving a 50% split would be considered outstanding.

Based on Sensor Tower's projections, the approximately 4.3 million pre-orders could translate to around 40 million copies sold by launch day, although the unique nature of GTA VI makes precise predictions challenging.

Background

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick previously revealed that the $100 version of GTA 6 is outperforming the standard edition in sales, which surprised many industry observers. The strong pre-order figures for the Ultimate Edition further emphasize the game's financial potential.

Historically, premium editions of video games tend to perform well during the pre-order phase, and the current interest in GTA 6 appears to follow this trend.

What This Means

The overwhelming demand for the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 suggests that players are willing to invest in premium content, which could lead to significant revenue for Rockstar upon the game's release. This trend may also indicate a dedicated fanbase eager for enhanced gameplay experiences.
