According to Newzoo, GTA 6's first week has opened with the strongest pre-order campaign on record, generating approximately $180 million in digital pre-order sales across the US and five major European markets: the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain.
This figure suggests that GTA 6 could be on pace for cumulative global sales between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion by the end of its launch week. The Newzoo Game Performance Monitor indicates that this marks the strongest opening to a pre-order campaign ever recorded in their dataset.
To estimate global pre-order sales, Newzoo applied the ratio of GTA 5's lifetime console player distribution, which shows that around 69% of its players are located within these six markets. This adjustment raises the regional figure to an estimated $260 million for the first week of pre-orders.
Newzoo's analysis suggests that the total revenue forecast for GTA 6 could reach $4.5 billion by launch week, based on the Proven Sequel curve, which indicates that the opening week typically accounts for approximately 5.8% of total revenue.
This projection aligns with the notion that GTA 6 is likely to resemble the Proven Sequel curve due to its established franchise and a committed fanbase, which has resulted in high pre-order numbers.
However, there are contrasting factors that could influence the sales curve. On one hand, the game's immense anticipation and decade-long demand could lead to a flatter curve, suggesting a forecast above $4.5 billion. On the other hand, the lack of annual releases may result in a thinner curve, indicating a forecast below that figure.
What This Means
The reported pre-order figures for GTA 6 indicate a strong start for the game, with significant implications for its overall sales trajectory. If the projections hold true, GTA 6 could achieve unprecedented sales numbers, reinforcing its status as one of the most anticipated titles in gaming history.
