According to various reports, Grand Theft Auto 6 is projected to generate sales of up to $5.2 billion by the end of its launch week. This prediction follows an estimated $260 million secured through preorders, marking one of the strongest preorder campaigns ever seen in the gaming industry.

Newzoo analysis indicates that GTA 6 generated approximately $180 million in digital preorders across the U.S. and the five largest European markets during the last week of June, shortly after preorders went live on June 25. Based on this data, global first-week preorder spending for GTA 6 is estimated at around $260 million.

Ronan Patrick, a management consultant at Newzoo, noted that the scale of demand for GTA 6, launching in November 2026, is rare even among the industry's biggest franchises. He emphasized that historically, preorder launches of this magnitude have been associated with the biggest commercial releases.

Despite some social media claims, Patrick clarified that GTA 6 has not reached a billion dollars in preorders 21 weeks out, describing such assertions as 'absurd.' He reiterated that the actual preorder figures reflect $180 million in digital spending across the key markets, translating to a global opening week of approximately $260 million.

Using preorder curves, analysts suggest that GTA 6 is on track to achieve between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in revenue during its first week. Even at the most conservative estimates, this figure represents a significant achievement by any historical standard.

For context, GTA 5 set records by generating $1 billion in sales within three days of its release in 2013, making it the fastest-selling entertainment product at the time. GTA 6 is expected to surpass this milestone quickly.

GTA 5 has become the second best-selling video game of all time, with nearly 230 million units sold, trailing only Minecraft. There is speculation about whether GTA 6 could eventually exceed Minecraft's 400 million sales.

The anticipated budget for GTA 6 is estimated to be between $1 billion and $1.5 billion, making it potentially the most expensive video game ever developed. Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has acknowledged the game's high costs, although he did not disclose specific figures.
