GTA 6 is reportedly facing fresh competition as several AAA titles have been delayed. Notably, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War IV has pushed its release from September 17 to December 3, 2026. This delay allows the developers to enhance the game further, as stated by creative director Jan Theysen in a YouTube announcement. He emphasized the importance of optimizing performance and fixing bugs to ensure a quality experience from day one.

The timing of Dawn of War IV's release is less than ideal, as it comes just two weeks after GTA 6's launch on November 19. While the Warhammer franchise has a dedicated fanbase, the overwhelming excitement for GTA 6 may overshadow its release. The game is expected to attract significant attention, making it challenging for other titles to compete.

Additionally, the gaming landscape has seen other projects struggle to find their footing against the anticipated success of GTA 6. Former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies' MindsEye has already faced setbacks, and now Lightspeed LA's Last Sentinel, led by former Rockstar San Diego studio manager Steve Martin, appears to be in jeopardy. Reports indicate that the project has consumed hundreds of millions of dollars without nearing a launch-ready state, further highlighting the challenges faced by developers in the shadow of Rockstar's flagship title.
