IGN recently reported on a visit to Rockstar North, where co-studio head Rob Nelson showcased an extended gameplay section of Grand Theft Auto 6. This demonstration revealed a reimagined Vice City and numerous gameplay details.
Among the highlights, players can switch between dual GTA VI Characters Jason and Lucia at any time while exploring the open world, similar to the mechanics in GTA 5. However, this switching may be disabled during certain story points.
Players can call or text their partner to summon them for open-world activities or simply to hang out. When traveling in vehicles, players can switch seats, allowing one character to drive while the other relaxes or engages in combat during chases.
The relationship between Jason and Lucia plays a significant role in the game. At the story's start, they aim to pursue a romantic relationship, which players can influence by spending time together outside of missions. Activities such as exploring, shopping, and even committing robberies can strengthen their bond.
While the narrative requires them to support each other, the depth of their relationship can affect how their story unfolds. However, there are no gameplay benefits tied to building a strong romantic connection, making it a roleplaying choice.
Players can engage in small interactions, like holding hands or opening doors for each other. Jason and Lucia can also share a safehouse, which operates on individual schedules, enhancing the game's realism.
The safehouses in GTA 6 are designed to be more interactive, akin to Red Dead Redemption 2's camps, allowing other characters to visit. Players can own multiple personal vehicles, each with functional trunks for storing clothes and weapons.
