According to CBS News, an Army unit in Georgia is offering a four-day pass to active duty soldiers as an incentive to reenlist, allowing them to play Grand Theft Auto VI upon its release this fall. This program is not service-wide and was proposed exclusively for the 9th Brigade Engineering Battalion at Fort Stewart, part of the 3rd Infantry Division.
The initiative aims to engage soldiers by connecting with their interests, particularly in gaming. Lt. Angel Tomko, a spokesperson for the 3rd Infantry Division, stated that the command team and career counselors wanted to create a unique incentive program to excite soldiers about reenlisting. As of now, about 130 soldiers are eligible for this incentive, which requires them to reenlist for a minimum of two years and up to six years.
The Army's recruitment strategy has included various incentives over the years, such as college tuition and special training programs. The four-day pass for GTA VI is part of a broader effort to attract soldiers by tapping into popular culture.
